Turkey and Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing
This Thanksgiving stuffing is fantastic! It is very flavorful and fresh-tasting. I replaced the usual pork sausage with much more healthy turkey sausage. Other dried fruits might also be utilized in place of cranberries.
Ingredients
Authentic recipe makes 10 servings
- 1 1/2 cups cubed whole wheat bread
- 3 3/4 cups cubed white bread
- 1 pound ground turkey sausage
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 3/4 cup chopped celery
- Sage dried
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 3/4 cup dried cranberries
- 3/4 cup turkey stock
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Directions
Spread the whole wheat bread and white cubes in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes or until toasted. Transfer toasted bread cubes into a big bowl.
In a large frying pan, cook the sausage and onions over moderate heat, breaking up the balls and stirring until browned. Add the celery, sage, rosemary, and thyme; cook, stirring to blend flavors.Pour sausage mixture over bread. Mix in chopped apples, dried parsley, cranberries, and liver. Drizzle with turkey stock and melted butter, and mix softly. Spoon into turkey.
